THE CAPITOL

Significant changes were needed to reinvigorate this 1980s purpose-built headquarters, previously occupied by Siemens, on the outskirts of Bracknell.

Externally the existing gold mirrored double glazed windows were replaced with high performance blue-green tint glazed units. The original glazed spandrels were simply over-clad with aluminium cassette panels and held in place with adhesive tape. This innovation dramatically cut construction costs, whilst effecting a spectacular and speedy visual transformation.

The upgraded facades were complemented by a new full-height entrance atrium providing the building with a fresh new image and an appropriate sense of arrival. Scenic lifts in the atrium give direct access to each floor and the resulting clarity and accessibility of the vertical circulation help in making the building more easily sub-divisible.
